Send to Premiere
Send Comp to Premiere puts the comp you are looking at into Premiere Pro as a Dynamic Link clip. Change the comp in After Effects and Premiere picks up the change — no render, no export.

Before you send
Section titled “Before you send”- Open the comp in After Effects’ viewer. Gulp sends the comp open in the viewer, not whatever is selected in the Project panel. With no comp open, the button is greyed out; hover it to see why, or which comp it will send.
- Premiere Pro must be running.
- The After Effects project must be saved. Premiere reads the comp from the saved project file, so Gulp saves it for you before sending. If the project has never been saved, After Effects asks where to save it first.
Sending
Section titled “Sending”- Press Send Comp to Premiere.
- The comp appears in the Premiere project’s bin.
To put it on the timeline as well, open ▾ beside the button and tick Drop at playhead in the active sequence. Gulp remembers the choice.
OCIO projects: baking the view
Section titled “OCIO projects: baking the view”In an After Effects project that uses OCIO colour management, After Effects shows the comp through its view transform — but Premiere receives the comp without it, so an ACES comp looks flat and washed out there. Gulp can fix that with a Gulp Tonemap that has the view built in.
When you send from an OCIO project, Gulp asks where to put it:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Wrapper comp | A new comp, “name - Premiere”, holds your comp plus the Tonemap, and that is what Premiere gets. Your comp stays exactly as it is in After Effects. |
| In this comp | The Tonemap goes into your comp itself. In After Effects you will then see the view twice. |
| Send as is | No Tonemap. Premiere will not show the OCIO view. |
Then it asks what Premiere’s output is:
| Choice | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Rec.709 (gamma 2.4) | A Rec.709 timeline for broadcast, graded on a reference monitor. |
| sRGB | Desktop and web viewing (about gamma 2.2). |
If the comp already has a Gulp Tonemap, Gulp updates its Output to match, and sets its curve only when it is still at None — a look you have matched or dialled in is kept.
The other comp tools
Section titled “The other comp tools”Two more buttons sit beside Send Comp to Premiere and act on the same comp — the one open in the viewer:
- Add Tonemapper adds a Gulp Tonemap, matched to the render’s Main when it can be.
- Add Light AOV Mixer hooks the comp’s light-group AOVs up to a Gulp Light Mixer.
Both are described in Tonemap and Light Mixer.
If it does not work
Section titled “If it does not work”- Nothing arrives in Premiere. Check Premiere Pro is running. If Premiere is busy, Gulp waits for it and says so in the status line.
- The comp looks wrong in Premiere. The project uses OCIO and the comp was sent as is. Send it again and choose Wrapper comp.
- The log (Show log in the status row) records what was sent and anything that went wrong.
